Drum Hangs are delighted to be able to present to the world's drumming community an exclusive chance to learn directly from a master of the Afro-Cuban and Jazz Drum Set Styles in a wonderul 4-part series titled Afro-Cuban Jazz & Beyond.
Throughout this 4-part series, the great Ignacio Berroa will be imparting all his knowledge of the different styles required to play the music as well as a comprehensive look at it's history and the traditional rhythms that have become so influential around the world. Afro-Cuban Jazz & Beyond promises to be inspirational and seroiusly educational for anyone looking to approach this often misunderstood style. As well as looking at all of the rhythms and grooves required, Ignacio will be de-mystifying subjects such as feel, how to perform with percussionists, as well as an in-depth look at the sonic possibilites at the drum set and how to listen.
As a world-class performer of both Afro-Cuban and Jazz styles, Ignacio will be showing us the link between the two styles and how he has established such an impactful approach and instantly identifiable sound.

In Part 2 of Afro-Cuban Jazz & Beyond, Ignacio will explore the following  rhythms:
- El Son
- Cuban Clave
- Danzón
- Danzonete
- CHA – CHA -CHA
- EL Son / Mambo / Latin Jazz / Salsa.
About Ignacio Berroa
Ignacio Berroa has been recognized as one of the greatest drummers of our time. A leading innovator in the blending of Afro-Cuban and American jazz styles, his artful drumming has supported a wide spectrum of the very top names in jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Charlie Haden, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba. Ignacio has led his own Grammy-nominated group for over 20 years, and has performed at nearly all the major jazz festivals, concert halls, and clubs internationally. He has consistently been on the cutting edge of the jazz and Latin jazz scene for nearly 40 years, and has been an integral influence on its shape and development.
